‘We Were There’, a photographic and multimedia exhibition to raise awareness of the important contribution made to Defence by Britain’s ethnic minorities over the past 250 years, is being staged in The Foyer, New County Hall, Truro from January 27 to February 5.

The exhibition will be open from 9am to 5pm each day and vividly shows how people from different religions, races and cultures came together at times of great social, political, military and geographical change to help create and then defend the British Empire and democratic freedom. Many who served were volunteers, including the whole of the Indian Army.

Celebrating personal commitment, bravery and professionalism regardless of religion, race, gender or social background, the exhibition offers a wide and inclusive perspective of our military past and demonstrates how those qualities continue to be in evidence today in the modern armed forces.

The exhibition has previously been shown at various locations around the country, but this will be the first time that it has visited the Southwest Peninsula.
