A brass band ranked number one in the world has chosen a Camborne-based music shop to supply them with their instruments.

Cory Band, which hails from the Rhondda Valley in South Wales, has asked Trevada Music to supply them with new cornets, tenor horns, baritones, euphoniums and tubas in future.

They have also asked the shop to maintain the new instruments.

Dan Higgins, store manager, said: “We are one of the top few retail outlets for brass in the country and that’s been recognised by the Cory Band. Hopefully this will be the start of a fruitful relationship with them.

"They are the number one band in the world so the fact they have come to us is quite an honour.”

Cory Band made history in 2000 when they took the British Open Shield home to Wales for the first time in the contest’s 148-year history. This triumph was repeated in 2002 and again in 2007 when the band won their third British Open title.

Last year the band won the European Brass Band Championships in Stavanger, Norway.

The band was formed in 1884 and in 1923 they performed what is believed to be the first ever radio broadcast by a brass band.
