A popular Falmouth man was found hanged in his bedroom after becoming the victim of spiralling debts.

Dominic Eustace of New Windsor Terrace was found by his father Andrew, who has since also died, just before 10pm on October 15 last year.

The 22-year-old was last seen at 11am that day. The previous night he had gone to football training with Mawnan FC, for whom he was a regular player, and both managers and players said he had seemed enthusiastic and normal.

DC David Palmer from Falmouth CID said that when police checked records they discovered Mr Eustace had a debt of just over £7,000 – although his half brother Robert Cole told the inquest that the figure was nearer £25,000, as the result of accumulated interest on a bank loan.

Mr Cole said that although his brother did not confide in anyone about his money worries, he was part owner of a house and could have sold his share if there had been a problem.

Mr Eustace was employed as a roofing tiler with Michael Bailey Roofing Contractors and had been due to start work on a church in Kimberley Park Road in the next few weeks.

Coroner Dr Emma Carlyon recorded the verdict that Mr Eustace killed himself, by “suspension of the neck.”
