A Christmas crack down on drink driving has seen the amount of accidents and people arrested drop.

The police campaign througout the month of December was part of a national campaign led by the Association of Chief Police Officers.

Force wide police carried out 3,784 tests on motorists, of these nine per cent were positive.

Last year 9.5 per cent of drivers tested were over the limit.

The number of collisions also fell from 2,129 last year to 1,942, however five per cent of these had drivers over the limit compared to four per cent the year before.
