Well over 2,000 people have joined an online group to support the fishermen in Helford who want to build a jetty.

A total of 2,253 had joined the Facebook group "I support the people of Helford who want to build a Jetty" by this morning and the figure is expected to keep rising.

The group was created by Rob Reynolds, to highlight the plight of fisherman at Helford who want to build a Cornish granite jetty to help their land their catches more easily.

The plan was approved by Kerrier district council, but it could now to be the subject of a judicial review after opponents lodged a claim for a hearing against the planners' decision.

The main protestors are from the Helford Village Society, with has many members who own second homes in the pretty fishing village.

The members of the Facebook group are calling for a petition to be sent to the government, asking for the "rights of the resident population of Cornwall and in particular those of the fisherman of the Helford River" to be respected.
