Two people have been rescued after a motor cruiser caught fire on the River Fal today.

A yacht stopped to rescue the husband and wife crew, who were shocked but not seriously hurt.

The 30ft Fossils Venture got into trouble at Turnaware Point.

The fire spread and gas cylinders on the boat exploded.

Lifeboat crews helped firefighters on to the pontoon.

The burnt-out hull of the boat was later towed by harbour launch and beached on Turnaware Bar.

Firefighters were taken to the scene by lifeboat crews Helmsman Dave Nicoll praised his colleagues.

"Despite the loss of the vessel both casualties had managed to scramble to safety and thankfully were not harmed - all the emergency services worked closely together during the incident," he said.
