The recently formed Flushing Rowing Club were thrilled to receive news this week that their application to Awards for All has been successful.

Awards For All (Lottery Grants for Local Groups) has awarded £5,865 to the Club to help provide new sporting equipment in order to involve members of the local community to enjoy a range of rowing activities.

On hearing the news, Club Chairman, Anne Oliver said: ’this is fantastic news and we are extremely grateful to Awards For All as it will enable the growing Club to move forward. The money has been awarded for a road trailer, which we have now ordered and this will enable the Club to travel to rowing events, including the World Pilot Gig Championships on the Isles of Scilly in May.

The award will also enable us to purchase new oars, a new boat cover, new seats and more importantly safety equipment such as a VHF radio, lifejackets, first aid kit, rescue line and flares. The lifejackets will enable us to now involve local under 16 year old rowers from the village of Flushing and so encourage them to participate in this community project. The Clubs thanks must go to Pat Morris who waded through reams of paperwork to obtain the grant and we now look forward to a fun packed rowing season'.

The club met at the Royal Standard in Flushing, (the Clubs base) to receive the good news and cheque and to plan for their season of summer rowing.
