The RSPCA is appealing for information after three rabbits were abandoned in Cornwall.

The young adult rabbits, one black female and two brown males were found in individual boxes in a communal car park on Tremant Road, Newquay, by a member of the public.

The rabbits were separated into boxes which all had air holes, newspaper, sawdust and hay, but there was no water. They had only been there for a short time, as there were no rabbit droppings in any of the boxes.

The trio are now being looked after by the RSPCA Venton Animal Centre in Higher Quoit, St Columb. The rabbits are in good bodily condition and appear to be healthy.

RSPCA Inspector David Hobbs, who is investigating, said: “There is never an excuse for abandoning an animal. If people are struggling with their pet or no longer want them, help and advice is available from a number of organisations, including the RSPCA.

“Anything could have happened to these rabbits, and the cold weather made the situation even more dangerous for them.”

Now the Society is urging anyone with information about the owner of these rabbits to come forward.

Julia Pattison, manager of the RSPCA Venton Animal Centre, said: “These three rabbits join a number of abandoned and unwanted rabbits in our centre. It is important for people to contact an animal centre if they are not coping with a pet and want it to be re-homed.

“We operate waiting lists which we prioritise according to need, so we may not be able to take the animal instantly, but will always deal with the situation as quickly as is possible.”

Anyone who recognises these rabbits or has any information about the owner should call the RSPCA national cruelty and information line on 0300 1234 999. Calls are treated in strictest confidence.

Anyone who is interested in re-homing these rabbits should contact the RSPCA Venton Animal Centre on 01637 881455.
