Two beaches at Gunwalloe are being cleaned by volunteers this Sunday as part of a National Trust campaign to clean up some of the county’s favourite family spots.

Both Church Cove and Dollar Cove are in line for a spruce up, with the big clean designed to help protect the area’s wildlife and maintain the beauty of the area.

The Trust will be handing out black bags and gloves to anyone keen to get involved.

Layla Astley, from the Trust, said: “We are hoping to take as much litter and waste away as possible, but also promote the importance of keeping beaches tidy. Whether that’s helping out with beach cleans or just remembering to take your litter home with you, every little helps to keep these special places special.”

She added that the Trust was “extremely proud” of the beaches in south west Cornwall and wanted to make sure they remained something to be proud of.

The Trust will be supported on the day by the “Community Litter Picking Project,” a group of volunteers who live in the Helston and Lizard area who are trying to complete 100 litter picks this year.

The beach clean starts at 10am this Sunday, weather permitting, and volunteers have been reminded to wear warm clothes.
