TWO new signing are expected at Falmouth Town this week as Alan Carey begins to make further changes to the squad in wake of his side’s 4-1 exit to Penryn in the Cornwall Senior Cup.

The players, who come from the Carlsberg South West Peninusla League, are believed to be more experienced, something which Carey is looking to introduce to the side.

He admits that Saturday’s performance was below par but says the players and the staff currently at the club are working hard to put things right.

“There is a terrific amount of work to be done. The players’ morale is low at the moment but it was like that before I came here and things might get worse before they start to get better but were are here for the long haul. Anybody who thinks that I can turn this around in a couple of weeks is clutching at straws.

“I’m not going to knock the current players here because they are a good group of lads. They went five games unbeaten in this league earlier in the season so I think the biggest thing is confidence but they are working hard on their fitness and eventually that belief will come back.

Speaking about the cup match, Carey said: “We were just not good enough on the day but full credit to Penryn they looked a good outfit and we can have no complaints about the result.”

Carey has already brought five new faces into the club including four players who asked to join him from his former club Mullion, once they heard he was leaving.

Added to that Jason Chapman, who worked with Carey at Bodmin Town, teamed up with his former boss again last week and started in goal against Penryn. The keeper, who arrived from Truro City, is highly-rated and Carey admits he is a good acquisition.

“Jason comes with a wealth of experience and no disrespect to Chris Symons, who has done well, it was a signing this club couldn’t turn down.”
