Falmouth company Speedy Lifting raised nearly £300 to sponsor an employee's trip to Ghana in a charity car wash.

Driver Lee Abdalla, who has been with lifting equipment company Speedy Lifting since it opened in Ponsharden back in April, will be building homes in West Africa for Habitats for Humanity. He is one of ten employees from parent company Speedy Hire helping the thousands of others with the project, but the only representing the south-west.

In aid of Lee's journey, Speedy Lifting hosted the car wash on Saturday where over 30 cars were given a clean, raising £280 for Lee's trip.

General manager David Noall said: "The car wash was absolutely brilliant and went really well, we had some very generous people come and support Lee and raise money for his cause.

"I would like to thank everyone who came and supported the day."

Habitats for Humanity seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action, its volunteers having built over 300,000 houses around the world since it was founded in 1976.

With Ghana's economy heavily reliant on agriculture and open to exploitation, many families are left homeless or without basic needs, volunteers for Habitats for Humanity like Lee are heading out there to help those left homeless.

Speedy Lifting will be hoping to put on another car wash for Lee's trip sometime in the near future.
