Families gathered at Falmouth municipal buildings on Wednesday to see the official unveiling of tiles in the foyer designed by over 120 babies and toddlers- aged from two weeks to four years old.

As part of the 'Celebrating Cornwall's Stained Glass Heritage' project, Falmouth art gallery have designed two stained glass windows to restore the building's original symmetry and have enlisted the help of little ones to create the first.

Ceramicist Linda Styles, with help from Eddie Bradley, created a template that reflected the original 18th Century designs on the opposite wall leaving a blank disc in the centre for the children to make their marks.

The gallery then invited the Susie Group - a support group for victims of domestic abuse - the WILD Young Mothers Group, mothers and babies from local health centres as well as its usual Baby Paint groups to take part in workshops where they designed their own individual spot tile. The result was a frieze of 140 individually designed tiles.

Donna Williams from the art gallery said: "All of the families and community groups involved in the project were absolutely delighted with the results.

"They were especially pleased that the children's work is going to be on display for generations so the children will be able to bring their own grandchildren to see it."

Curator Brian Stewart added: "The Falmouth babies have done fantastic designs that have been much admired by visitors. We are most grateful to the Heritage Lottery Fund for making this exciting community project possible."
