Cornwall Hospice Care has explained its decision to threaten the Helston charity store with closure.

The charity’s head office has told the store in Meneage Street that they are not making enough profit and the town was in decline.

A spokeswoman from Cornwall Hospice Care said: “Following a review of our retail operation we are actively considering the closure of our outlet in Helston.

“Over several months the income from this outlet has reduced to such an extent that it is no longer viable to continue trading there.”

She added that they would constantly review the situation to see if trading improves.

The store was one of the first to double up as an art gallery through an initiative from manager Amanda Holdgate.

The St Austell-based head office has given the shop until June to improve its profits.
