A budding chef from Truro did not leave a sour taste in Heston Blumenthal's mouth as he served up his best lemon treat for the TV chef.

Adam Gerrish came top of the ten finalists in the Finish Lemon Sparkle Recipe Challenge final, where entrants had two-and-a-half hours to prepare their best lemon recipe in front of a judging panel at Heston's famous Fat Duck restaurant in Berkshire, including Heston himself.

Adam's recipe was a warm lemon and ricotta cake with lemon tart ice cream and lemon syrup. The judges chose him as the winner after recognising the skill and techniques used to prepare his complex recipe. Adam was also complimented on the flavours and light texture of his dish.

A spokesperson from sponsors Finish Quantum said: "We were impressed with Adam's innovative recipe and meticulous approach to cooking. The recipes submitted in the competition were of a very high standard so it was a real achievement for Adam to be chosen as a finalist and to go on to win."

Heston Blumenthal said he was delighted to be able to take part in the Challenge.

"As a self-taught chef, I believe that one of the most important attributes in our craft is enthusiasm and a constant desire to strive for excellence. The Lemon Sparkle Recipe Challenge was a great way to get people thinking about taste and flavours," he said.

Adam's prize was a meal for two at The Fat Duck, as well as enjoying lunch at Heston's pub with the other finalists, the Hinds Head Hotel. He also won a session with Heston, where he shared some of his entertaining tales of kitchen delights and nightmares along with some innovative tips and tricks.
