A woman has won £1.5 million in compensation after suffering devastating injuries in a car smash near Truro five years ago.

Ruth Layton, 25, suffered a serious head injury in the crash leading to “cognitive impairment” and which affected her memory, judgement and concentration.

She was also left with broken bones and damage to her internal organs, after the car in which she was a rear seat passenger left the road on a bend in the A390 between Tresillian and Truro on June 1, 2003.

Ruth, who was due to go to university, was in intensive care for 12 days following the crash.

Ruth won the award after she, through her father, sued the driver of the car, Michelle Tocher of Trencreek Close, St Erme, Truro.

Her motor insurers agreed on January 29 to settle Ruth’s case for £1.5 million.
