Resurfacing works will take place in Helston on Godolphin Road and Wendron Street from Monday, February 9 for a week.

Cornwall county council has apologised for the "unavoidable disruption" involved in carrying out these important works.

Matt McTaggart, Cornwall county council's executive member for strategic planning and transport said: "Ongoing surveys by our highways officers have identified the surface of the road needs to be replaced to prevent further expense at a later date.

"The works are essential in order to ensure the continued safety of the highway surface for all road users. I ask that road users are understanding and patient while the necessary resurfacing takes place."

CORMAC, the highway maintenance and construction arm of Cornwall county council, will be carrying out the works which will require a road closure between 9am and 4.30pm. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times and vehicular access to properties will be facilitated when available.

The works have been programmed to avoid the early morning and late afternoon peak traffic hours, in order to minimise disruption to the majority of road users.

These times could be affected through severe weather or similar circumstances.

The planing from the old road surface will be stored and made available for recycling next year as part of the county council's recycling initiative.
