Falmouth businesses are flocking to join the Packet’s Buy Where You See This Sign campaign launched this week.
Already more shops, cafes, delis and estate agents representing both independent and national companies have signed up to support the campaign encouraging people to shop locally.
They are putting campaign signs and stickers in their windows to show their support for aimed at encouraging people to come inside.
Steve Kimberley, from Kimberley’s estate agents summed up why the businesses needed public support.
“Independent and local businesses are the cornerstone of any town or village and it is important for the community to keep them going.”
Kenny Rogers, owner of Ribticklers fancy dress store on Webber Street, said that shops in Falmouth need to rally together to make sure residents enjoy a valuable shopping experience.
“In our store, we are working hard to maintain our prices as low as possible and have not made any increases this year as we, as long as we have a base of loyal customers we will be able to keep this low price promise so it works both ways.” Many stores and services thrive from a loyal community clientele, such as Cornish Quality Meats in Church Street and All About Olives in Arwenack Street, who have both put signed up.
Billy Fowles from All About Olives said: “We’ve been going about 18 months and built up a local clientele. We can’t get through a winter here without the local people and we hope to keep doing it.”
Martin Tonkin, manager of Cornish Quality Meats added that in his trade, they rely on the support of their customers.
He said: “We offer an alternative to some other businesses and enjoy a good local trade, if it wasn’t for the community we wouldn’t have that so we need to keep that going.”
Lyn Pollard, who owns the Cavendish coffee shop and Courtyard Deli, said: “If people keep using their stores, the town will be hustling and bustling again as we move into summer.
“There is a lovely energy in this town and with the disruption from the road works almost over, we can get it thriving again.”
