MP's for Falmouth and Helston and Truro have been exonerated following the Legg Review into expenses' claimed by members of parliament.

The long-awaited audit of House of Commons expenses between 2004 and 2008 by Sir Thomas Legg has ordered MP's across the UK to repay £1.12 million.

Julia Goldsworthy, MP for Falmouth and Camborne was told to repay just £171.32 and Andrew George received an apology for the Common's Fees Office.

Truro MP Matthew Taylor was not asked to repay anything.

Mr Taylor, said: "Obviously I am very pleased that Sir Thomas Legg has confirmed that there were "no issues" with my claims, and so has asked for no repayment at all. I have always sought to be meticulous in this regard."

Ms Goldsworthy said: "Sir Thomas Legg identified an error which resulted in an overpayment of £171.32 relating to my accommodation costs in my first year of being an MP. I repaid this in full immediately, and published the correspondence on my website.

"I have always supported the Legg Review process, and since I was elected have campaigned for reform and transparency in MPs' expenses.

Ms Goldsworthy publishes all her expenses claims on her website, www.juliagoldsworthy.org.

MP for Helston Andrew George has already repaid £4,348.25 after double payments of council tax bills, hotel costs and phone charges.

The House of Commons Fees Office has also apologised to Mr George over any suggestion a balance had to be paid where there was not one.

Mr George said: "I warmly welcome the Legg Report. I have always said that the system needs tough independent auditing.

"Sir Thomas has, as I asked, thoroughly investigated the wholly unfair reports published in a number of national newspapers last summer and has found that there was no case to support the insinuations that I had acted improperly. The impact which untruthful reports have had on my family and I over the last year has been intolerable.

"I have also drawn to the attention of the authorities a number of book keeping and clerical errors which have come to light during this five year review. I am grateful that the Commons Fees Office has issued me with an apology."

The damning review said that the Additional Costs Allowance (ACA) system was "deeply flawed".

Three Labour MPs and one Tory peer will face criminal charges over their expenses, director of public prosecutions Keir Starmer has said.

The £1.12m cost of Legg review was greater than all MP's repayments combined.
