Members of Falmouth area Friends of the Earth met with Julia Goldsworthy to ask her to support their campaign on a new climate change law.
The meeting was attended by FalFoE members Sally Austin-Brown and Betty Levene and was organized as part of the Big Ask Big Lobby - a national action where hundreds of MPs will receive visits from constituents who want action on climate change.
Sally Austin Brown said: "Julia had no hesitation in supporting our request that she writes to Tony Blair and Environment Minister David Milliband asking that they put the climate change bill into the Queens Speech this autumn. This would ensure that it became law as soon as possible".
The group say they are backed by many residents of Falmouth, Penryn and the local area who have overwhelmingly given support to FoE climate change events in recent months.
Friends of the Earth's climate campaign, the Big Ask, is calling for a new climate change law that would commit the government to cutting the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by the UK by three per cent year on year. These cuts can be achieved through a range of measures such as encouraging energy efficiency and renewable energy supplies.
