TWO Cornish teenagers are among 95 trainees beginning an electrical apprenticeship with Southern Electric Contracting (SEC) this week.
Samuel Cooper, 16 of Little Oaks, Penryn, and Zachary Penna, 16, of Roseland Gardens, Redruth, were shortlisted from 1,200 applicants to join the company's apprentice training programme.
To complete their apprenticeship, which takes around four years, the boys will combine theoretical study at their local college with hands-on practical experience at SEC's Cornwall office under the supervision of an experienced electrician.
Samuel and Zachary were among a group of trainees who attended one of the two regional induction courses held at Tidworth Conference Centre last week.
The course was designed to introduce SEC's new recruits to its systems, focused heavily on safety procedures.
Once the apprentices have finished their training, there is no restriction to how far they can progress within the company.
