FORTY years is a long time in pop music and when members of 60s pop group The Undecided met for a reunion in Falmouth it was just like old times.

Although there are now a few spreading girths and thinning hairlines, within a short space of time the group was getting on like a house on fire and threatening to take over from the band playing for a wedding party next door.

Way back in the mid 1960s when pop music was revolutionising the world of music, Falmouth-based The Undecided were one of the top Cornish bands.

This five piece outfit had a huge local following, and in 1966, they signed a recording contract with the legendary producer Joe Meek, creator of "Telstar" who changed their name to Danny's Passion.

Travelling to his studio in Holloway Road, London, they recorded a track called "(It's all leading up to) Saturday Night" which was intended to be their first single.

David met Joe Meek when working for the Royal Mail in London and became good friends with him. When he came back to Falmouth and became the band's manager Joe invited them up to record the track.

Unfortunately another band, Marmalade, also recorded the song as a single and Danny's Passion's version was never released.

When Joe died in February, 1967, the song, along with hundred of others, was locked away in warehouse after Joe's assets were auctioned off. There they remain to this day, owned by a property millionaire, Cliff Cooper.

The band returned to Cornwall where they eventually parted company and went there own separate ways until their reunion this year 40 years after they nearly made the big time.

Such was the interest in the group at the time, that they had the ultimate accolade of appearing on the front page of the Falmouth Packet.

Now, 40 years on, and not having seen each other for all these years, four of the original line-up came together for a reunion meal at The Green Lawns Hotel, in Falmouth.

Former manager, David Peters, said the reunion went beautifully with everybody fine and looking very well. Danny Gill, the singer, originally from Penryn, now lives in Polperro where he runs a gift shop and conducts the ladies choir of St Piran Singers.

Alan Toms, lead guitar, is a caretaker at a school in London. John Challengworth, bass, now lives in Australia where he is into real estate. Jerry Lynch, rhythm guitar, is doing security work in Ladock.
