"The best yet" is how people described the Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week.
With ticket sales exceeding expectations at Events Square and increased competitor numbers at the sailing clubs, organisers were pleased to declare the event a success.
"The combination of the hits of yesteryear and the talent of the future that we offered as part of this year's entertainment line-up really seemed to hit the spot and ensured that the event appealed to the whole community," said Ellie Bradshaw of Kernow Events, the company responsible for staging 11 nights of live music at Events Square.
On the sailing side, record numbers of entrants competed for some of the best prizes ever seen by the clubs, which were presented at the Royal Cornwall Yacht Club on Friday. Henri-Lloyd alone donated £4,000 in vouchers to the winners, as well as branded rucksacks and caps.
"We would like to thank all those who contributed to the success of Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week 2006, and helped us maintain our position as the second largest regatta in the UK after Cowes Week," said chairman of the Port of Falmouth Sailing Association, and member of the Henri-Lloyd Falmouth Week Shoreside team, Roger Hollingsworth. "The week was generously sponsored by Henri-Lloyd, Red Stripe and Old Pulteney Malt Whisky, as well as many other prestigious organisations such as Pendennis Shipyard, Falmouth Harbour Commissioners, Fal River Links and University College Falmouth, and we would like to extend our grateful thanks to them too, as well as to all our brilliant volunteers, who did a sterling job of ensuring that the event was a success both on water and on land."
David Lang, town centre manager, said he hoped everyone also enjoyed the shoreside events such as the "fantastic parade organised by the Falmouth Marine Band" and all the other activities and events.
"The town looked its best, thanks to the hanging baskets that were generously donated by Pendennis Shipyard and University College Falmouth, and the bunting from the RNLI," he added. "We thank everyone for being part of Falmouth Week, and look forward to working with partners, old and new, to raise the profile yet further - not only of the event, but also of Falmouth - in 2007."
