THERE will be an air of nostalgia at Trescobeas cricket ground on Sunday when some of the most famous England Test cricketers in recent times will take part in a charity match on Falmouth's picturesque ground.
The match will be between Old England X1 and a Cornwall Past and Future X1 and the England line-up has some of the most famous names in the game.
Those Old England XI consists of ex professionals who have represented England at one day or Test Match level matches and are likely to include John Lever (Capt.), Derek Randall, David Capel, Bill Athey, Clive Radley, Monty Lynch, Bob Parks, Neil Radford, Roger Tolchard, David Lawrence, Jon Hardy, and Joey Benjamin.
The Cornish team will consist of retired or semi retired players who have represented Cornwall or Senior Cornish League sides mixed with one or two up and coming Cornish youngsters.
Proceeds from the game will go towards helping in the training of midwives in Cornwall in memory of Emily Rose Jenkins who was tragically killed in the London Tube bombing in July 2005 at 24 years old. Her family has had a home in Cornwall for many years and are very keen to do something in Cornwall in Emily's memory, who was planning to train as a midwife in the county.
The match has been made possible by sponsorship from Westcountry Fruit Sales, Hine Downing Solicitors, Richard Thomas Partnership Chartered Surveyors and Wine in Cornwall and organised by Henry Shaw of Wine in Cornwall, John Lowry of Hine Downing and Sally Annan.
Emily's brother Barnaby said: "Emily spent a year of her short life living and working in Falmouth where she made close friends and was much loved by all who had the good fortune to know her."
There will be refreshments, a barbecue, a beer tent etc as well as a raffle. The match starts at 2pm.
