Helston town council is to pay £12,000 to upgrade CCTV coverage in the town for the next three years.
The decision was taken as one councillor admitted she “loathes” going into the town at night.
Sue Swift was speaking in support of closed circuit television camera at a meeting of Helston town council.
It was as members discussed whether to join a scheme with Hayle, Camborne, St Ives and Redruth town councils, who had already agreed to pay an annual fee in return for a number of monitored hours of CCTV in their towns.
The cameras have not been monitored since March 31, after Cornwall Council failed to receive the financial backing of the 11 towns in the county that have cameras, although they have continued to record for 24 hours a day.
