A day of celebrations will mark the arrival of the Olympic Torch in Helston this Saturday.

With the Torch Relay passing through Helston just after 10am, one of the first buildings it will be carried past is the Old Cattle Market Building.

The Samba Celtica band will welcome to the torch to Helston as it passes by, before band members head to the Old Cattle Market to start the special day's festivities there.

For the rest of the day there will be static displays from the local air cadets, Slimming World and Cober Valley Rotary Club advising on stroke awareness.

Poldhu Amateur Radio Club will speak to other towns on the route, Spiezia Organics will give some free treatments and advice and representatives from Goonhilly Satellite Earth Station will show how they have been involved in the Olympics in the past.

There is also a full programme of events starting at 10.45am.

The public can join demonstrations from the Blue Anchor Morris Dancers, an Olympic Song from the under threes by Monkey Music, a zumba dance off, pilates for all, children's art with the Creation Station and a fitness class with Carrick Leisure Sports Club.

One of the main events of the day will be the children's Olympic Walking Marathon around the boating lake at 11.30am.

Children can make their own torch and join in. Once the race is completed they will receive their own gold medal as a reminder of the day, from the town's new mayor Jonathan Radford-Gaby.

Children can book a place on the day or contact Jeanette O'Connell on 01326 560606, to pre-book a place and a medal.
