Marine Biology and Ecology students from Falmouth Marine School celebrated their academic achievements at an end of term awards ceremony this week.

David Stedman, Head of Falmouth Marine School welcomed students and their families and friends, some of whom had travelled from as far as Northampton to be at the event.

David said: “This is an excellent opportunity for us to acknowledge the exceptional efforts of our learners, not only to celebrate the hard work of students, but also to appreciate the support offered by family and friends.”

As well as presenting all students with certificates, the ceremony was also an opportunity to announce winners of individual awards.

These awards were for academic achievement in year one, progress from year one to completion in year two and overall academic achievement.

First year student Hannah Ramsey Smith from Essex won the Academic Achievement Award for her outstanding academic performance in the first year of the course.

Jo Mason from Falmouth gained the Progress Award and the award for overall academic performance went to Jennifer Austin.

Jennifer Austin, who will be volunteering in the Amazon this summer, surveying the Boto river dolphin population said: “It was touching to be recognised for all the effort I have put in.

“I've really enjoyed my time at Falmouth Marine School and know that I have a great grounding for my degree course at Plymouth this September.”

The students were nominated by their tutor Craig Baldwin who commented: “This is in recognition of the consistency these students have put into their coursework, achieving distinctions, the presentation of their work, and timely submission, together with their punctuality, attendance and level of contribution in class.”

Applications for a September 2012 start on the Marine Biology and Ecology level 2 and 3 course are being taken throughout the summer.
