Falmouth Golf Club had a busy Christmas competition weekend. On Saturday, the Three-Man Team Texas Scramble attracted 23 teams on a pleasant day, writes Keith Rashleigh.
The winning triumvirate were Dave and Harry Drewett alongside Ian Renshaw. They combined superbly throughout to card respective nines of 42 and 41 for a winning total of 83 points. Runners up were Thomas and Adam Pryor with Paul Caunter who totalled 75 points. Third prize went to Steve Thomas. Ian Mooe and Chris Beer with 73 points.
The following day was the much looked-forward-to “Turkey Trot,” played with just two clubs and a putter with a shotgun start. It proved once again there is no need to carry the allowed 14 clubs in the bag as the scoring demonstrated. John Pengelly used his handicap well by carding nines of 19 and 21 points to win most of the Turkeys.
Runner up was Ian Moore with nines of 19 apiece for 38 points. Third prize went to Thomas Pryor also with 38 points with respective nines of 20 and 18 points.
The previous week the Golf Club staged its Mixed Christmas Texas Scramble on a pleasant winter`s Saturday where 20 teams of 4 teed it up.
The winning quartet with an impressive haul of net 52 and respective nines of 25 & 27 were Harry D rewet. Ian Moore. Kevin James and Aaron Cooper as they combined well to card birdies at the 3rd, 6th, 9th, 10th, 11th, and 15th holes to win by a solitary stroke from Callum Davis, Chris Old, Henry Cooper and Phil Wells who carded birdies at the 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 15th, 16th, and 17th holes.
Third were Ray A Clark. Lynne Dickinson. Pete Snodgrass and Bradley Cox with 54 net including birdies at the 2nd, 7th, 10th followed by the only “Eagle” of the day at the par five sixteenth hole. Fourth place went to Archie Fox, Lee Weir, Darren Horton, and Barbara Brown also with 54 net.
