Falmouth Golf club presented an amazing sum of money to local charity 'Sasha Would've Loved It' on Friday, writes Keith Rashleigh.
Congratulations to everyone on raising over £12,487 for a worthy cause.
Falmouth Golf Club captain Pete Lewis explained why he chose 'Sasha would've loved it' as the chosen charity this year because of a personal connection.
When Ian Churcher (club president), Elise Hanson (ladies' captain) and Nick Brown (seniors' captain) also agreed to support the same charity, Pete knew the club could make a real difference.
Pete said: "During my visit to Michelle, Sasha's mum, at her shop in Penryn, when I first became captain, she recognised me and shared that Sasha was born on the same day as my son.
"This sparked a memory of a photo of them both when they left Treliske Hospital. Additionally, upon discovering that my stepdaughter was close friends with Sasha, the choice became clear to me.
"After listening to Chris and Michelle talk about the incredible work they do for local children and their families who are dealing with cancer, I am delighted by the amount of money our amazing golf club members have raised.
"It is a testament to the generosity of everyone who has donated this year. Well done to all!"
The charity shop is at 34/36 West Street, Penryn, telephone 07915 312858, should anyone wish to support.
Meanwhile, on Saturday the club staged the penultimate round of the Winter league where 24 pairs took part all trying to avoid the heavy rain forecast.
The winners were Paul Caunter and Callum Davis with a terrific, better ball score of 46 points. With nines of 25 and 21, Callum stole the show with a blitz of birdies coming at the second, third, sixth, seventh, sixteenth and eighteenth holes.
Runners up were Mark Trewin and Richard Smith who combined well for 44 points (21 and 23) Third place went to Mike Elliott and Archie Fox with 42 points (21 and 23). Mike carded a solitary birdie at the eigth.
There were 20 birdies in total and an "Eagle" 3 at the sixteenth hole by Luke Geach. Twos were scarce, with Malcolm "Bert" Coulls getting one at the second, Dave Holland and Luke Geach at the fourth, and Callum Davis and Crispin Merritt at the eighteenth. The easiest hole was the eleventh, which played to level par. The most difficult was the ninth, which averaged + 1.24.
The top five in the Winter League are Mike Elliott 85 points, Callum Davis 79, Luke Geach 72, Ian "Henry" Churcher 68 and Andy Morris 68.
The final round has been re-scheduled for March 16 and with up to 20 points available for an individual it's too close to call.
