Saturday saw the Devenish Cup played at Falmouth Golf Club with the best conditions we have had in a long time, writes Keith Rashleigh.
An impressive 102 players turned out for the first Stableford Trophy of the season. The course was set up perfectly, with the men playing off the white grass tees. The rough was still challenging so hitting fairways was the order of the day in order to post a respectable score.
In third place was Dan Briers with 37 points, who had nine pars and a birdie on the fifth. Beating Dan on countback, also with 37 points, was Dave Blizzard his round consisted of ten pars and two birdies on the seventh and the 15th.
The winner of the Devenish Cup 2024 is Ollie Dobell with 38 points, with respective nines of 20 and 18 points who carded eight pars. Best scratch score of the day went to Ash Bennett with 74, with 11 pars and two birdies on 8 and 16.
There were 40 birdies in total and an impressive 13 twos by Andy Morris at the second and seventh; Alan Miller, David Hay, Will Sercombe all at the second; Nick Brown at the fourth; and Dave Blizzard at the seventh.
This was followed by a plethora of twos at the 18th by Crispin Merritt, Dave Holland, Luke Geach, Adam Pryor, Colin Ross and Pete Snodgrass.
The easiest hole on the day was indeed the 18th, which averaged + 0.45, while the most difficult was the 17th, which averaged +1.40.
Sunday at Falmouth Golf Club saw the conclusion of the Mixed Greensomes, with the Richardson Trophies being contested for by all of the golfers that had participated in three or more of the five greensomes played over the winter months writes.
Conditions were once again favourable, with the course beginning to dry out after the current spell of weather.
A total of 18 pairs took part in the popular Greensomes format, where the best drive from each pair is taken with alternate shots thereafter.
In third place on the day was Chris Old and Barbara Roker with 39 points, second was Phil Jones and Angela Cortis with 40 points. Winners on the day were Mark Butland and Jenny Dunstan with 43 points.
The winners of the Richardson Trophies 2024, meeting all of the qualifying requirements, were Falmouth Golf Club Men's Captain Phil Jones and Falmouth Golf Club Women's Vice Captain Angela Cortis.
