Cornwall's first-ever LGBTQ+ cricket event is a matter of weeks away.

It will take place at Cornwall Cricket Centre, Truro College on Friday, November 8.

The event is funded by the National Lottery and is aimed at celebrating inclusivity, diversity, and a shared love for cricket within the local LGBTQ+ community and beyond.

It will feature a unique take on the traditional game, with a 'Glow in the Dark Cricket' theme under UV lighting.

Players will use fluorescent bats, balls, and accessories, creating a visually striking experience that combines the excitement of cricket with the appeal of neon lights.

The event is open to all, regardless of skill level, providing a safe and inclusive space for everyone to enjoy the game in a supportive environment.

It is part of Cornwall Cricket’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, making it a celebration of both sport and community.

Cornwall Cricket Board's community engagement lead, Kellie Williams, said: "This project is very important to me, because it demonstrates how cricket truly can be a sport for everyone.

"Whether you identify as a member of the LGBTQ+ community, or you would like to show your support as an ally, then come along.

"Our free Glow in the Dark Cricket Festival will kick start Cornwall Cricket's LGBTQ+ events calendar, with lots of other exciting opportunities to look forward to in the future.

"These events will offer a welcoming environment for people to feel included and to have lots of fun.

"I'd like to express thanks to The National Lottery Community Fund for making this project possible."

Cornwall Cricket Board managing director, Joe Skinner, added: "This is an exciting development for Cornwall Cricket and we are excited to see where this programme goes.

"Cricket is a game for everyone and this indoor format has a fun focus in a safe space.

"Glow in the dark cricket started in Cornwall a few years ago and every time we have done this people have absolutely loved it as an experience."
