On Friday, November 10, the Eagles 1XV played a rare Friday night fixture under floodlights at the Mennaye Field versus Pirate Amateurs, writes Danny Trick.
It was a brisk evening and the travelling support were in high spirits as the Eagles enjoyed much of the territory and possession throughout the match.
However, despite powerful performances by Ashley Searle and Phil Hinchley in the pack and a valiant defensive effort by centre Finn Deavin out in the centre, who threw himself around the park, it was the Pirate Ams backline who took advantage when it counted by clinically scoring out wide.
Rowan O'Regan featured in most of the evening's highlights for the Eagles, playing for the badge, and showing a determination to score the only Falmouth try in the second half to the far right corner, which was unconverted by Harvey Penhallurick.
O'Regan's Try was a fitting tribute to his grandfather and well-respected local businessman Robin Curnow who had passed earlier in the week. Robin was a powerful prop forward who played for Penryn during the sixties and was father to Falmouth Clubman Neville Curnow. The Falmouth Rugby Family send their thoughts to the Curnow family at this time.
Final score: Pirate Amateurs 25 - 05 Falmouth Eagles 1XV
This Saturday, Falmouth take on league leaders Plymstock Albion Oaks who beat Penryn 45 - 7 last weekend. Kick-off is at 14:30 at the Recreation Ground.
