'Town' dominated the autumn shinty derby, securing an 11-0 victory against local students.

In the bi-annual students versus locals 'senior' derby, the town team, featuring the best players from local sides Mabe and Falmouth, showcased their prowess against the students of Falmouth and Exeter universities.

The derby, which has gained momentum over the years, serves as a platform for introducing new players to senior shinty in Cornwall.

The Falmouth and Exeter university students, known for their enthusiasm and contribution to the resurgence of shinty, fielded several Camborne School of Mines (CSM) shinty teams.

These teams have made their mark in the South West Shinty League and internationally, playing in six-a-side tournaments and at senior level.

Despite their enthusiasm and track record, the student team, with several new signings, struggled in their first senior fixture of the season.

The match, held in light mist, began with a minute's silence, observed by both teams at the centre circle, as part of Remembrance commemorations.

The town team, led by Cornwall captain Alex Amos, started strong, with Amos unleashing a powerful shot from 50 yards that was saved by the students' goalkeeper Lara Cripps.

The town team maintained pressure throughout the first half, leading 3-0 at the break.

In the second half, the students, led by captain Molly Shaw, showed some resilience with quick counters.

However, the town team's experience and discipline saw them extend their lead to 10-0.

The students' hopes of scoring were dashed in the last second of the game when the ball skewed into their own net, bringing the final score to 11-0.

Despite the loss, player of the match was awarded to Cripps for her masterful goalkeeping.

The match concluded with presentations of the ESL Mead Stick (National League) and Claridge Bowl (Oxford Championship) to the town team.
