The West Cornwall Table Tennis League, sponsored by Ignition Credit plc, nears the conclusion of the 2012/13 season, writes Malcolm Peters.

Docks A cannot be caught at the top of the Premier Division and will retain the title won last year.

Second place looks to be going the way of St Austell but is still undecided at this stage. St Austell defeated Palace B 9-1 to help their cause, the only victor for Palace being Roger Jacobs who got the better of Carl Baldry.

Palace A came away 7-3 winners when visiting Docks B thanks to three from Adam Tatlow. Chris Peters, deputising for Steve Lobb, took two for the hosts beating Martin Burley and Dave Waddington.

Division One saw a top of the table clash when Docks F entertained leaders Mounts Bay A. Nick Peters got revenge on Karim Ali and Mike Moore for the season’s earlier defeats, beating Karim 11-9 and Mike 12-10 in the final games.

Howard Baker, in for the injured Dennis Williams also defeated Ali in another five set match. Bridge C have a couple of games in hand in 3rd place, but failed to capitalise on this when meeting Palace C.

The Palace took this match 7-3, Paul Mallen with three, Colin Flook with two and Brian Nicholls with one doing the damage.

At the bottom of the table Mylor B took four points from Docks G, Bob Bridges and Chris Bassett both defeating Jack Cortis and Charlie Johns.

Charlie Scorse took three for the home team. St Ives A could only manage three points against Penpol thanks to a maximum from David Smith.

Andrew Nicholson defeated Andrew Tyson 11-9 in the final game and Adam Sparks got the better of Tristan Wynne 12-10 also in the final game.

In Division Two leaders Cape Cornwall A took eight points when visiting Docks J. Three from Scott Meagor and two apiece from Rob Fuller and David May took the points for the visitors, David Greenough enjoyed tough five end wins over Fuller and May.

Mounts Bay C entertained Harris Mill and took the match 8-2, George Banfield earned a hard fought 12-10 final end win over Mike Elford, but the home team took the match thanks to three each from Nigel Cock and Harry Stanbury.

Division Three saw leaders Docks P defeat their own K side 10-0, the youngsters of Peter Cortis, Morgan Cardell and Finley Thomson gaining a few ends through the night but rarely seriously troubling the P outfit. Cape Cornwall C made the trip to Palace H and came away 8-2 winners, with 3 from Howard Charman and 2 each from Sam Penrose and Peter Jackson.

For the young Palace side Jared Harris got the better of Sam Penrose and Liam Vinson defeated Peter Jackson.

Mylor C entertained local rivals Saracens and ran out 9-1 winners.

Freya Tuffery avoided the whitewash for Saracens by defeating David Marshall in a close 5 set match.
