Porthleven Reseves appear to have dispelled any lingering fears of relegation from the Jolly's Cornwall Combination League after a resounding 5-2 victory over Troon at Gala Parc on Saturday.
But struggling Newquay are still in desperate trouble at the foot of the table after they were beaten by a single goal at home against Falmouth Town.
The Peppermints are sitting in 19th spot, three points adrift of Hayle, but with four games in hand. They entertain Porthleven at Mount Wise on Tuesday night in a must-win game.
Elsewhere RNAS Culdrose were beaten 3-2 at home by in-form Mullion, and St Ives and Perranwell were involved in a seven goal thriller at the King Gearoge V playing fields, with St Ives eventually edging it 4-3.
Full Combination League results were as follows:
Hayle 2 - 3 St Agnes
Illogan RBL 3 - 2 St Just
Newquay 0 - 1 Falmouth Town
Perranwell 3 - 4 St Ives Town
Porthleven 5 - 2 Troon
RNAS Culdrose 2 - 3 Mullion
