PENRYN ATHLETIC RESERVES 2 ST AGNES 1
PENRYN Atheltic are Supplementary Cup champions after beating St Agnes 2-1 at Wendron.
And Athletic were worthy winners, dominating from the whistle.
Penryn took the lead with only ten minutes on the clock when Ryan Reeve finished off a flowing move to fire in the opener.
Symon Winnan in the Penryn goal needed to be alert to tip over Tom Bartlett’s rasping drive from 25 yards out, but St Agnes were struggling to trouble an organised Penryn defence, containing the impressive Ben Oliver, Penryn’s AFC’s sportsman of the year.
Penryn took the game by the scruff of the neck just before half time when Phil Cattram shot was parried by St Agnes keeper Ryan Bull into the path of Matt Roberts, who made no mistake from just a few yards out.
After the break St Agnes managed to compose themselves and play their way back into the game.
They were rewarded for their efforts when Matt Eddy stabbed the ball in from close range after Penryn failed to clear their lines from a St Agnes set piece; but it was to prove too little too late for the West Cornwall side.
Play was held up for 15 minutes after Scott Kellow suffered a head injury which rendered him unconscious, but the injury was not a serious as first feared, though Kellow was substituted.
Despite the hold up Penryn managed to dig in and make sure of a deserved win, capping an excellent season for all three of the club’s teams.
