HELSTON 278-3
ST IVES 122 all out
A resounding home win has boosted Helston up to fifth spot in division two. They trail leaders Falmouth seconds by 29 points after six games.
Monday’s visit to Leedstown was washed out along with the rest of the cricket in the Western Section.
It was the skipper Dan Jenkin that played the major innings.
He made a superb 129 made off 138 balls that included thirteen boundaries.
He shared a century opening partnership with Stuart Pethick.
The pair put on 110 before Pethick was bowled by Andrew Peters for 41 made off 76 balls.
Chris Martin weighed in with 30 at a run a ball before being trapped leg before by Otto.
Jenkin and Josh Ninnis then added 79 before Jenkin eventually went to Otto with the score at 252.
Ninnis was unbeaten on 41 and Justin Matthews 17 not out when the overs ran out.
Otto took two for 69.
In contrast the St Ives reply got off to a poor start. Peter Boyd got rid of Jamie Swannell and Dillon Hart with only ten on the board.
Steve Jenkin dismissed Peters for four.
Then came a Peter Boyd hat-trick. He had opener Dave Marsh caught behind for 22, that included three boundaries.
Jason Shaw went first ball in identical fashion.
Then Noah Tanner was trapped leg before to make it three in three. The visitors were 38 for seven and in all sorts of trouble. Otto provided some late resistance to make 45 off 50 balls with five fours.
Jan Harper-Miller made 18 to help put on 31 for the ninth wicket. The end came in the 28th over at 122. Boyd took five for 29 from ten overs.
Dan Jenkin took two for nine. There was a wicket each for Steve Jenkin, Ross Leathley and Mark Jenkin. Helston visit Camborne tomorrow evening (Thursday) for a second round Vinter Cup tie. Then on Saturday they are at Roskear again to take on Camborne seconds.
