Porthleven got their season off to a flying start at home against Foxhole Stars on Saturday, but there were surprise defeats for Penryn Athletic and Wadebridge.
Dennis Annear's side ran out easy 4-0 winners at Gala Parc to give them a welcome boost ahead of some tough upcoming fixtures.
Elsewhere Penryn Athletic were on the wrong end of a 3-2 result away at Callington, but Wayne Quinn's Mousehole were able to nick a 1-0 win at home against St Dennis.
Last season's strugglers Vospers Oak Villa were involved in an 11 goal thriller away at league new boys Bude, with the score eventually finishing 6-5 to Villa.
Perhaps the day's biggest surprise came at Bodieve Park, where Wadebridge were beaten 2-1 by Sticker.
And Penzance, relegated from the premier division last season, got their campaign off to winning start at Penlee Park against Perranporth, with John Dent's Magpies finishing up 6-4 winners.
Full division one west results were as follows:
Bude 5 Vospers OV 6
Callington 3 Penryn 2
Helston 4 Truro City Res 1
Holsworthy 0 Dobwalls 6
Mousehole 1 St Dennis 0
Penzance 6 Perranporth 4
Porthleven 4 Foxhole Stars 0
Wadebridge 1 Sticker 2
