Yet more fixture cancellations are expected over the next 24 hours, with the relentless bad weather set to play havoc with the weekend's sport.

High winds and heavy rain caused chaos across the county earlier this week, and the forecast for Friday night going into Saturday is for more bad weather - with some suggesting the worst is yet to come.

South West Peninsula League secretary Phil Hiscox issued a statement saying: "The recent weather has caused storm damage at a number of grounds, and the wet weather coupled with the current Met Office series of Amber and Yellow warnings that are in force [until] 23.00 on Saturday night, mean we are aware its likely to get worse before it gets any better."

Falmouth Town are due to host Tavistock at Bickland Park on Saturday afternoon, but with the pitch already saturated the likelihood is that any further rain will prevent the game from going ahead.

Similarly Penryn Athletic's game against Holsworthy is unlikely to take place if more bad weather hits the area overnight.

Porthleven's game against Penzance has already been called off due the a waterlogged pitch at Penlee Park.

Meanwhile Truro City's Treyew Road ground has suffered extensive storm damage, with the roof blowing off a stand at the council end of the ground, putting Saturday's Calor Southern League game against Hemel Hempstead in doubt.

Tentative enquires were made about the possibilty of the match being played at Plymouth Argyle's Home Park ground, but Argyle chairman James Brent turned down the request claiming the pitch needed time to recover.

Despite the damage, Truro City chairman Peter Masters said he remained hopeful the game would go ahead as planned.

In a statement on the club's website, he said: "Subject to the weather conditions, Contractors will be removing the damaged areas of the Council end stand together with the cracked concrete walls to make the ground safe and useable.

"If all goes to plan the pitch will be marked out and made ready to play on Saturday. Hemel have informed us that they will be leaving for Treyew Road at 6am on the day of the match. We have agreed a referee pitch inspection (subject to League approval) at 10am on the same day to confirm whether the game is on or off."
