COMBINATION LEAGUE CUP

RNAS Culdrose 3 Falmouth Town 3 (Falmouth won on penalties)

Both Culdrose and Falmouth Town have struggled this season - Town especially so since the departure of former manager Bryn Wheeler towards the end of 2013.

But his successors Marc Rose and Danny Knowles had something to celebrate on Saturday after a dramatic penalty shootout cup victory at the Sports Pavillion saw them book their place in the semi-finals of the league cup.

Jim Green's thunderbolt from the edge of the box, and Spike Hughes's close range effort for Culdrose were cancelled out by goals from Alex Ottaway and a brace from Steve Retchford for Falmouth.

Retchford and team mate Darren Friend both missed normal-time penalties for Town, but the visitors redeemed themselves by winning the shootout 3-0 after the game finished 3-3 in extra time.

Mullion 3 Newquay 0

Mullion scored three second half goals to ease their way past Newquay, who put up a real fight despite the scoreline suggesting otherwise.

The second half was just five minutes old when Mullion took the lead, Joe Lugg finishing off a tidy move.

Phil Cattran scored the second soon after, and Rob Carey completed the scoring in the 76th minute when he latched on to Lugg's through ball and drove his shot past the keeper.

Newquay will have an early opportunity to gain revenge over Mullion when they face them in the league next weekend.

St Just 1 St Day 2

St Just and St Day are both enjoying successful league campaigns, but St Day's title charge has shown signs of faltering in recent weeks. This hard-earned victory over St Just was the perfect way for Matt Harris's side to restore some confidence as the season enters its final stages.

Mikey Davies opened the scoring for St Day on the half hour mark when he swept in from Dominic Pullen's probing through ball.

The home side had a penalty appeal turned down before Rob Troon headed them level just after half time.

But they were only on level terms for five minutes before a St Day counter attack resulted in Tom Hogarth firing in what proved to be the decisive goal.

CORNWALL COMBINATION LEAGUE

Ludgvan 3 Penryn Athletic 1

We have just entered March and Gerens James has already scored 44 goals in the Combination League this season. It's a statistic worth repeating - although perhaps not if you're a Penryn fan.

The only surprise after Ludgvan's comfortable 3-1 victory over Athletic was that James's name was not the only one on the scoresheet for the home side.

The league's top scorer opened his account from the penalty spot just before the half hour mark, but Connor Edgson levelled for Penryn soon after the restart.

James had to wait until the 70th minute before scoring his second, and Jamie Devine's fine effort just before full-time completed the scoring for Ludgvan, who move up to second in the table.

St Ives 0 Illogan RBL 1

The team Ludgvan - and everyone else - is chasing, Illogan, were pushed all the way by St Ives at the Saltings, but victory by a single goal ensures they maintain their 14 point lead at the top of the table.

They were forced to wait until the 82nd minute before Matt Roberts fired in the only goal of the game from the edge of the box.

Prior to that Sam Waters had gone close, and Luke Johnson forced a superb stop out of St Ives keeper Martyn Harding, but Roberts's goal means Illogan march on. Can ayone catch them?

Troon 3 Porthleven 1

This was a must-win game for both sides, but after falling to a morale-sapping defeat surely nothing can save Tony Roberts's Porthleven side from tumbling out of the Combination League?

The Fishermen are level on points with Troon at the foot of the table, but the victors on Saturday have a massive five games in hand and Port look increasingly in need of a miracle.

Matt Osborne opened the scoring for Troon in the 25th minute before Andrew Paul pulled one back for the visitors.

Marcus Smith missed a penalty for Port, before Osborne and brother Andy sealed the win for Troon, leaving Roberts's side staring down the barrel.

Perranwell 1 Redruth United 2

Redruth's first season as a combination League club could hardly have gone any better, and victory over Perranwell on Saturday all but confirmed their status as a top ten team.

They took the lead in the 40th minute when Brett Adams finished off a route one move.

Perranwell equalised late in the second half when Ben Manley met Luke Brabyn's cross with a powerful header.

But Perranwell's relief was short-lived, and five minutes later Redruth restored their lead when Andy Bishop fired in the winner.

Hayle 0 Falmouth Athletic 0

A point apiece was a fair result after an evenly matched encounter which saw both Hayle and Atheltic spurn half-chances to take maximum points.

A lacklustre first half gave way to an equally uneventful second 45 minutes, but Athletic brielfy came to life late on when a couple of set pieces in promising positions offered the visitors a sniff of a goal.

But they came to nothing, and with both sets of defenders well on top it was only ever going to end in a draw.

St Agnes 2 Goonhavern 0

Goonhavern may have hauled themselves off the bottom of the table, but with Troon's victory over Porthleven they can't afford to many slip ups like this.

True, mid-table St Agnes might have expected to take all three points, but with tricky conditions acting as a leveller, the visitors might have hoped to at least nick a point.

As it was they came away with nothing. Mike Burn drive drove the opener in from the edge of the box, and James Salisbury nodded in the second late on.

Goonhavern remain two points clear of both Porthleven and Troon, but having played three more games than the bottom club it promises to be a nail-biting end to the season.
