Launceston 0 Falmouth Town 1

A second half goal from striker Andy Westgarth saw Falmouth Town stun in-form Launceston at Pennygillam to win 1-0 and further ease their relegation fears.

Westgarth's goal, scored from close range in the 48th minute, means Town move seven points clear of 18th place Cullompton Rangers, and ten clear of Tavistock, who occupy the Peninsula League premier division's final relegation spot.

Town have 13 games left to play, and though manager John Dent has previously struck a cautious note when talking about his side's chances of survival, Saturday's result helps Town maintain their momentum, and puts daylight between themselves and the drop zone.

What will no doubt please Dent most of all is the manner of their victory. Following Wesgarth's goal Launceston put Town under real pressure, only to find the defensive pairing of Joe Cooper and Tom Whipp in fine form at the back.

An uneventful first half saw neither side create many chances, with a Westgarth effort on the half hour mark which Clarets keeper Dan Stevenson did well to parry away being the pick of the bunch.

But the Town striker's goal soon after the restart gave Dent's side the sniff of an upset, and Falmouth duly dug in, frustrating Launceston, whose unbeaten run prior to Saturday's game stretched all the way back to October.

Falmouth face a trip to Bovey Tracey next weekend, while relegation rivals Liskeard and Tavistock face one another at Lux Park.
