Wadebridge 1 Helston Athletic 3
Helston Athletic helped banish the memory of last week's Charity Cup defeat against Perranporth with an excellent 3-1 league win over Wadebridge at Bodieve Park.
And while the Blues' remain fourth in division one west, they have five games in hand on current leaders Sticker, leaving Sid Taylor's side in a potentially strong position as the season enters its final stages.
Especially so given that neither Sticker nor Mousehole have applied for promotion to the premier division. What this means for Helston should they finish inside the top three remains to be seen, but the prospect of promotion could serve to reignite a season that looked to have fizzled out a month ago.
Helston opened the scoring on Saturday courtesy of an own goal from Wadebridge defender James Cudmore, but only narrowly avoided repaying the favour when they rattled their own crossbar with an errant defensive header soon after.
With just over 20 minutes left to play the home side were back on level terms when Nick Hurst nodded in a Luke Hodge cross, but Tom Russell handed the lead back to Helston barely ten minutes later when he poked in the Blues' second.
And Mark Goldsworthy made sure of the points in the 80th minute when he scored his 19th of the season.
Helston now face a run of three away games, including a tricky trip to Treyew Road to face Truro City, before welcoming promotion rivals Sticker to Kellaway Park for what could be a make or break match.
Elsewhere in division one west Holsworthy moved off the bottom with a 2-1 victory over Foxhole Stars, while Sticker thrashed Penzance 4-0 at home. Helston's conquerors last week, Perranporth, overcame Penryn Athletic 2-1 at Ponsmere Valley, and Vospers Oak Villa drew 2-2 with St Dennis. Bude Town's miserable season continued with a 1-0 home defeat against Dobwalls.
Full division one west results were as follows:
Bude Town 0 - 1 Dobwalls
Holsworthy 2 - 1 Foxhole Stars
Perranporth 2 - 1 Penryn Athletic
Sticker 4 - 0 Penzance
Vospers Oak Villa 2 - 2 St Dennis
Wadebridge Town 1 - 3 Helston Athletic
