Thomson sees red as Helston are forced to settle for a point away at Bude

Helston Athletic gave up ground to Callington in their quest for promotion from division one west after Bude came from two goals down to snatch a point.

The Blues' disappointment was compounded by the sending off of captain Jamie Thomson for a second bookable offence ten minutes before the break, after Helston had taken a 2-1 lead.

Charlie Young, and promising youngster George Molcher put Sid Taylor's side two goals up before Chris Hill clawed one back for the home side, who despite managing a point remain in serious trouble at the foot of the table.

Thomson's dismissal allowed the Seasiders back into the game, and Helston found themselves under pressure after the restart.

Bude eventually made the extra man count when Billy Hopcroft drew them level, but soon after scoring the equaliser Hopcroft was given his marching orders for dissent.

The Blues pushed hard for a winner, and must have thought the points were secure when Ashley Stidwell fired in their third goal of the game.

But seconds before the whistle Adam Smith beat the offside trap to chase a long ball over the top, and finished well to deny Helston the win.

The result, coupled with Callington's win at home against Holsworthy, moves Lee Beer's side to within a point of Helston in the table with three games in hand.

Elsewhere in division one west Sticker were beaten 2-1 at Treyew Road by Truro City, and league leaders Mousehole continued their march to the title with a 4-1 drubbing of struggling Hoslworthy away from home.
