A brace from Newquay old boy Andy Westgarth saw Falmouth Town bounce back from midweek defeat against St Austell to claim all three points against the Peppermints at Mount Wise.

It was the perfect response by John Dent's side, who despite not being mathematically safe from the drop must now surely have done enough to secure their SWPL premier division future.

Harry Evans, harshly sent off against the Lilywhites on Tuesday night, scored Town's opening goal before Westgarth struck twice in the last 25 minutes.

Former Falmouth striker Matt Drummond scored Newquay's only goal of the game.

"They know they let themeslves down on Tuesday night," said Dent, "but they haven't become a bad side overnight.

"I'm very pleased. I thought the performance was exceptional. They've showed a lot of character to bounce back after losing in the week."

Drummond put the Peppermints ahead just before half time when he headed past Town keeper Danny Burrows from an Ollie Gibson corner.

But soon after the restart, and with the wind at their back, Evans equalised for Town when his corner bamboozled both sets of players and drifted straight into the back of the net.

Westgarth put Town into the lead just after the hour mark following an exchange of passes between Evans and fellow midfielder Dan Richardson.

And he was on hand to tap in Town's third after Joe Cooper's header dropped kindly for him.
