Penryn 37 Paignton Saxons 3
After a fortnight without a game due to bad weather Penryn returned to Western Counties West action at the weekend with a well-deserved victory over bottom club Paignton Saxons.
The Bourough have suffered a topsy-turvy season, blighted as it has been by injury and inconsitency.
But they were on-song at the Memorial Ground on Saturday, running in six tries to sweep the Saxons aside.
Andrew Sevior set the scoreboard ticking over with the first of Penryn's tries, before prop Matt Williams bulldozed his way over soon after the restart.
With Paignton reeling Penryn pressed hard for another score, but the visitors managed to organise themselves and keep Paul Trevaskis's side out until the 33rd minute, when Mitchell Vague rounded off a flowing Penryn move to cross the whitewash.
Lewis Vague got in on the act before the break when he dotted down Penryn's fourth try of the game, giving Paignton a mountain to climb in the second half.
But the visitors were too busy holding Penryn at bay to put the home side under any serious pressure, and midway through the second spell a brace of quick-fire tries sealed the win for the Borough.
Flanker Phil Hinchley scored the first, with Jake Seviour adding the extras.
And minutes later Mitchell Vague capitalised on some powerful forward play to burst over the line and apply the finishing touches to an impressive win.
Elsewhere in the league Ivybridge cemented top spot with a decisive 19-44 away win over title rivals Teignmouth, who remain second.
Truro eased past relegation threatened Bude 33-13, and St Ives (SW) came through a close encounter with Okehampton with a narrow 39-35 win.
