Hornets 35 Camborne 24
Camborne gave a battling display in Somerset before going down in the final quarter to the South West One likely champions Hornets.
The Cherry & Whites will now have to win their remaining three games to have a chance of securing the play-off spot which would match their achievement of last season.
‘Town’ made a couple of changes with Alex Ducker at full back allowing Adam Kevern a start on the wing and skipper SteveKenward returned at centre.
The visitors made a superb start taking the game to the home side upfront and built up a 14-3 advantage inside the first half hour.
Good work by the forwards allowed flanker Cameron Bone to be first to cross for a try converted by David Mankee and though Hornets countered with a penalty hooker Sam Bartle was forced over with fly half Mankee again converting.
As the interval neared Hornets bagged an unconverted score to cut the deficit and another just after the break saw Camborne’s lead reduced to only a point.
Mankee stretched the advantage with a penalty before crucially two home touchdowns in quick succession saw Hornets 23-17 in the ascendancy.
As the visitors tired the powerful home three quarters added two more tries one of which was converted to take the score to an unassailable 35-17.
Down but certainly not out the Cherry & Whites hit back again in the closing stages with a No 8 Dave Roberts try again improved by Mankee but it was to be too late for any comeback.
Camborne play their final home South West One game of the season this weekend when Thornbury are the visitors.
