FALMOUTH Gig Club has successfully reached level two in a three stage Club Achievement Scheme set up by Carrick Leisure Limited, writes Fran Brennan.
This accreditation scheme allows local sports clubs to work towards raising their running standards and helps to develop forward planning in three manageable stages, with the club ultimately gaining Club Mark Status.
Now that Falmouth Gig Club has been awarded with the level two accreditation, they can demonstrate, good health and safety and working practices for all existing and new club members. This accreditation will also give all those wanting to start rowing with Falmouth confidence that the club takes health and safety, coaching, child welfare, sports equity and equal opportunities seriously.
Falmouth welcomes all who have an interest in gig rowing, including those who have limited or no experience, and holds informal, drop-in novice sessions at 12 noon on Sundays throughout the winter months.
To cater for the needs of an ever expanding and highly competitive membership, the club is currently working to raise money for a new gig. The club are selling 64ths at £280 each to raise the £19,000 needed for a new boat and hope with local support to meet the cost by the summer.
