DAVID Gudzij won the first medal of the year at Budock Vean golf club on Sunday. The course was in surprisingly good condition considering the rain of the previous week and all but the later starters completed without getting wet, writes Keith Rashleigh.
David's fine net 68, including birdies at the fourth and 17th holes, was good enough to win by two strokes from Rob Gibson. Third was Robert Johnson with a net 71.
Despite almost everyone entering the back nine twos competition the task proved elusive enough to create a bumper "roll over" for next week's Winter League The New Year's "bash" attracted a good turnout. New captain Barry Williams started proceedings with the traditional "drive in" before leading his team of Marlene Williams (wife) and Roger and Shirley Mildren to victory in the scramble. Runners up were Brian and Ann Martin alongside Keith Rashleigh and Richard Burton.
The participants were later treated to a superb buffet supplied by the Budock Vean Hotel.
