THE old picture of Wellington Terrace School football team taken in 1938-39 (published last week) brought a quick response from readers in supplying all of the missing details.
Not surprisingly, the quickest off the mark was Ven Collins of Falmouth who not only revealed why the school had won the trophy, but provided a complete list of the players in the picture.
"The team won the shield after winning the county championship by defeating Newquay 3-2 after extra time at Probus," said Ven.
The school went through the whole season unbeaten, remarkably, a feat achieved in 2004 by Ven's favourite team, Arsenal.
Ven's line-up is (back row, left-right): Mr Bullock (headmaster), G Brokenshire, D Saundercock, N Eddy, R Trewavas, G Lewis, W Brokenshire, Mr Wherry (sportsmaster). Front: R Stringer, R Lawrence, N Bowden (captain), R Vinnicombe, and J Gray; inset: R Hartley.
