PENRYN ATHLETIC 1 ST DAY 0
ONE goal was enough to give Penryn Athletic all three Jolly's Combination League points after their narrow 1-0 win against St Day.
The first half was a fairly even affair, but the visitors were unable to create too much in front of goal.
Athletic made the early running with goalkeeper Paul Hoskens pulling off a fine save from Will Scoley and then doing well to save Paul Kneebone's header from Steve Warr's free kick.
Man of the match Darren Martin was also foiled when his shot was blocked on the line, but St Day should have done better when Matt Witts' cross was missed by Mike Elliott when well placed in front of the goal.
Athletic scored what proved to be the winning goal two minutes into the second half when Steve Brewer ran on to Warr's through ball and found Shaun Halford who lifted the ball over the diving Hosken to score.
The Saints hit back with efforts from Witts and Elliott who both shot wide, but they also needed Hosken to keep them in the game when saving well from Steve Brewer and substitute Dan Richardson.
Jacob Johnson had a chance to settle the outcome when he picked up Brewer's pass and went round a defender but saw his shot saved by Hosken.
On Saturday Athletic are home to St Just.
