PENRYN ATHLETIC 3 ST JUST 0
PENRYN Athletic maintained their pursuit of Jolly's Combination League leaders Illogan with a 3-0 win against St Just.
The match was a personal triumph for Steve Warr who hit a hat-trick.
It was the visitors who went close to scoring in the early stages when Tim George scooped the ball wide when well placed, but Athletic hit back with a fine long-range effort by Kirk Davis, but Andrew Curnow held on comfortably.
Paul Kneebone missed another good chance of breaking the deadlock. Dominic Pullen headed Darren Martin's corner back across the face of the goal only for Kneebone to blaze over the bar from close range.
When a goal came it was certainly worth waiting for. Steve Warr picked up the ball 20 yards from goal and execute a great chip shot over Curnow into the top corner of the net to put Athletic in front.
It was Warr who added a second goal early in the second half. Kirk Davis pushed the ball down the flank for Jacob Johnson who moved the ball inside for the on-rushing Warr to go round Curnow and score.
St Just never gave up the cause and twice went close through Gareth May and Matt Harris, but the result was put beyond doubt when a good build up involving Shaun Halford, Johnson, and Pullen set up Warr to score with a shot and complete his hat trick.
Substitute Robbie Canale almost made it four from Will Scoley's pass, but Curnow just managed to tip his shot over the bar.
Athletic: C Symons, M Brewer, K Davis, N Grimshaw, P Kneebone, S Warr, W Scoley, S Halford, D Pullen, J Johnson, D Martin. Subs: R Canale, L Jeffery, S Owen.
